FOREWORD

1. This edition sets out the rules of the Combined Pension Scheme of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. The Scheme was formed when the Principal Non Industrial Superannuation Scheme for affected participating employers merged with the Industrial Superannuation Scheme of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and was renamed the Combined Pension Scheme. This edition also contains the rules of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and Associated Employers Voluntary Contribution Scheme (reproduced in Section 7) and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority Shift Pay Pensions Savings Plan (reproduced in Section 8) which are schemes duly determined by the Authority with the approval of the Secretary of State in accordance with paragraph 7(2)(b) of the First Schedule to the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1954 as amended.

2. The Rules have been agreed by the Management and Trade Unions of the Authority, and duly determined by the Authority with the approval of the Secretary of State in accordance with paragraph 7(2)(b) of the First Schedule to the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1954 as amended.

3. These Rules are amended from time to time and the effective dates of all changes are shown in the rules where this is relevant to interpretation. The version printed in the following pages does not necessarily constitute the form of the Rules at all times since 1973 (or in the case of a member of the former non industrial scheme, 1972) and there may be outstanding agreed amendments which have not yet been incorporated in this Rulebook. Members seeking further information should consult their Local Pensions Officer or the Pensions Administration Office, Thurso.

4. Rule 8.20 of Appendix 8 has been approved on the basis that it should be used only for former non industrial scheme members aged 50 or over.

5. The Rules are complex and, although explanatory booklets are available, members of the Scheme are recommended always to consult their Local Pensions Officer or the Pensions Administration Office, Thurso, before concluding what a particular Rule would mean in their case.
